Ohio House panel OKs bill to repeal Common Core

Lets just hope that it goes no further.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WYTV) – Standards set by the state to evaluate students progress in school could be changing yet again.

A Republican proposal to repeal Common Core learning standards in Ohio easily cleared a House committee Wednesday, despite doubts over whether the bill has enough support to survive a full floor vote. The hearing comes as school districts across Ohio are working to implement those learning standards.

Common Core requires schools to teach students the same topics in math and language arts.

The bill’s sponsors say many parents and teachers feel Common Core sets the bar too low and emphasizes teaching to the test. But Common Core supporters say getting rid of the standards now would be a big step backward.
